Aaron and several other firefighter decided to compete in the Fire Fighters Combat Challenge in Lubbock. The competition went on 2 days. My challenge...keeping up with 2 kids and keeping them happy in the hot, west Texas weather!
They actually did fairly well. Reagan found a nice water puddle that she inital just wanted to walk through.
Despite warnings to not get wet and to be careful...walking soon turned to jumping. And then...
...she fell into the water puddle a got slightly wet! Guess that's one way to stay cool!
Reagan was very entertained by the whole experience. She had a hard time taking her eyes off of what was going on. Since she's not tall enough to see over the rails...she improvised and decided she could see through better!
The guys challenge...a stair climb while carrying a hose, a hose pull up the tower, run down the stairs, sled, run through cones, hose pull and shoot, and dummy drag. They did pretty good for their 1st year and had the opportunity to go another round.
The team after the 1st round...looking tough! Most of the teams there had special, lightweight, competition gear. Our guys are much tougher wearing the REAL thing!
At some point during the 2nd round...it got very hot and the kids got very cranky! Poor little Adam was as red as Reagan's puppy.
And Reagan just started look a little delirious. Neither one of them could give into their sleep in the hundred degree weather.
After the second round...not only were the kids ready to go home, but I think the guys were ready to go too!
The kids didn't waste a second falling asleep once we got into the car. We stopped to eat lunch and neither one of them woke up. We had to get get Reagan's meal to go!
It was all in all a fun trip. And the guys did great considering that it was their first year!
